Free Image Capture QC tool
Appropriate scanning of your 2D gels can have a greater impact on the outcome of your image analysis as you might think.
To help you check the quality of your image capture step, prior to committing time and money on the analysis, we have developed a small QC tool that scans your images for the following:
- image size
- image format
- greyscale
- bit depth
- dynamic range
- level of saturation
- intensity level
- grey-level span
If your images don't pass any of these checks, you will be alerted to it, together with a message on possible consequences and a suggestion for how to improve it.
How to access the Image Capture QC tool
The image QC tool is part of the REDFIN 2D gel image analysis software, which you can access for free with no commitment to payment of any kind.
1. Download REDFIN from the download page
Download and installation should only take a few minutes. The necessary hardware specs are listed to the right on the download page. Click here
2. Create your free and secure account and log in
3. Enter the name of your experiment and lick on the "Solo" button
4. Browse for your images using the navigation tree on the left
The selected images will appear to the right
5. Initiate the automatic image quality check
Select the images you want to quality check and drag them down to the bottom panel. The image quality check will be carried out automatically.
Any images that pass the quality check are indicated with a green check mark.
Any images that don't pass the image QC for one or more reasons are shown with a yellow or red warning triangle.
Hovering over the warning triangle or clicking "Next" will show you the detailed information of what problems have been identified, how they could affect the analysis, and what you can do to solve them.
