Ludesi CEO speaking on "measurements of correctness and completeness in 2D gel image analysis" at Peptalk 2008
Ludesi's CEO and founder Ola Forsstrom-Olsson appeared at the international Peptalk conference in San Diego, CA January 7-9, where he gave a presentation called "Measurements of Correctness and Completeness in 2D Gel Image Analysis". In his speech, Mr. Forsstrom-Olsson pointed out that proteomics data, no matter what technology, need not only to be reproducible, but also to be correct and complete.
"Reproducible data that is incorrect or incomplete, is uninteresting, especially from a biomarker discovery perspective" stated Mr. Forsstrom-Olsson. "No matter the technology, we need to get the basics right and get reliable measurements of correctness and completeness in the data extraction step in order to deliver on the promise of proteomics in the years to come."
Mr. Forsstrom-Olsson presented study results which indicate that a measurement based on evaluation of the correctness of spot detection, spot segmentation and spot matching (“Combined Correctness”), provides a good indication of the correctness and completeness of the results from 2D gel image analysis.
"We have now performed the largest study ever conducted in 2D gel image analysis in order to find useful metrics for correctness and completeness of 2D gel image analysis data, continued Mr. Forsstrom-Olsson. The results clearly indicate that there exists such a measurement, and we call it Combined Correctness".
